I got the vht gold from Jegs.com and I used a combination of wire brushes and polish wheels to get them as clean as possible for a minute I was thinking of leaving them like that they were so shiny

Job well done. VHT is good stuff. Puts my flaking off autozone caliper paint kit to shame.

I like the way the gold sits with the Black Cherry. A lot actually.

Would gold look good on the Midnight Blue Ribbon -whatever they call it- tCs? I eventually want black rims, and I think black calipers might look like the wheel has an ugly chunk in it.

I think gold with black wheels will look good on the Midnight Blue Ribbon ... if I know my Scion colors, it's the dark blue, right? You can always photoshop it to see!

All depends on what color you're looking for. Your local parts store should have either caliper paint or Duplicolor engine paint. The engine paint is made for high temperatures, so it would work great on the calipers.

    Tusche justplay... tusche.

With the special engine paint, do you still sand the calipers down 1st?

As with all painting, prep work is key to good adhesion and lasting finish. All dirt, grime, debris, oil, and grease has to be removed from the surface of the metal. After that, a good wipe down with a lint free cloth soaked in Ethyl or Isopropyl Alcohol will remove any final contaminants. Nodular cast-iron is porous so it can have contaminants hidden in the pores. Further scrubbing with a wire brush might be in order then. Sanding is only required is you plan on smoothing the surface the caliper for smoother looks.

I have to go with what navy just said.....I took an entire weekend to do mine....I went all the way with mine though...I had the car up on jackstands all weekend. I pulled the caliper completely off the car...wire wheeled them, and sanded/grinded them smooth....I used the G2 caliper paint...it can be applied with either a brush or an aerosol setup....

I actually applied my paint with a brush....1st coat was thin..( as thin as an epoxy paint can be )....the 2nd coat was a bit thinker....the color has gotten darker as it completely cured and they look just as good as they did when they were done a little over a year ago...

    Bump For Painted Caliper Goodness

Finally recoated my front calipers. Thought I would reopen this old thread to see how everyone else's experience with painted calipers has been.

My PC gun has been broke and the car in Texas so this has been long overdue. PC is what I originally planned on doing, but had to opt for the Duplicolor caliper paint. I had to go to 6 different autoparts stores to find the blue paint. It seems that no one even stocked the darn thing. Luckily, I had plenty left in the rattle can from a previous job. I also came across some reflective lettering that I had bought well over a year ago for this. Been on for over a month and still looking new.

I am extremely jealous. You have no idea. That looks absolutely stunning. I want to PC my calipers either hot pink or my nail polish blue.
